Step Up Method

You all are well versed with the contemporary education system. Under this system in spite of blooming like flower the life of students are getting crushed. Due to the pressure and workload of heavily loaded books and studies they experience lot of mental stress and tend to avoid lectures and stay away we can see that today’s educational system in both private and government institutions is “Chalk and talk”. But here we have to think that does this educational system help them in grasping and learning more? Are they interested in it? Does students feel like studying on their own desire and also does teacher’s teaching method attract them? Are teacher’s able to understand the grasping power of all the students at same time? Are students studies affected due to lack of physical resources in the school? We are often puzzled in such questions and the solution of our confusion is Step-Up Method.

Lack of teachers in Education System, Lack of physical Resources in schools, Lack of interest towards studies in students, things like this point towards the lack of seriousness in giving Quality Education. In such circumstances with the goal of making students active towards their studies and bringing effectiveness in learning-teaching Process H.M.P has come up with this System, with the help of this system Students can get Knowledge with fun. Points Considered Under Step-Up Method:

For cards and workbooks different type of exercises are made for different subjects. These activities show directions to the students about known to
unknown, easy to difficult and from sample to reality. This exercises can be done by small group of students, whole class, and one student or in pairs of
students with the help of teachers. Different types of classes are made for different types of activities and the subjects are distinguished with the help
of different symbols and colours.

Class 1: BlueColour Card
Class 2: PinkColour Card

Maths: Symbols according to Content
Language: Activity targeted Linguistic Symbols
Environment: Activity targeted Environmental Symbols

Step-Up Method depends on 4 Groups:

1. Assistant Teacher
2. Partial Assistant Teacher
3. A Fellow Subsidiary
4. Individual effort

In step up method, teacher’s role is to be made Helpful. Centre of it is child, helps in giving personal attention on all the students in the class. And
more importantly this method is helpful for focusing on weak students by its remedial activities. By this means the child becomes developed and dynamic.

Importance of Step-Up Method:

    • Confidence of the child can be boosted with the help of activities.
    • Every child would get an opportunity to sharpen his skills.
    • Every child would get sufficient time to learn according to his pace
    • Student would get in depth understanding of content and knowledge
    • Self-confidence of the students is boosted
    • Child independently starts accomplishing his work by himself
    • Child inculcates habit off working with the team or group
    • Child would get motivated to accept the competitiveness and competitions.
    • Knowledge gained from non-practical things can be helpful in practical life.
    • Teacher would be aware of the grasping power of each and every student of the class
    • This interesting method not being cumbrous, tedious and boring the child will like to attend school on his own.
    • Due to the assessment done according to the units teacher can know the capabilities of each and every student and practice can be done according to it.

Evaluation Method in Step-Up Method:

The child can only go ahead by step after evaluating how much he/she has grasped in the earlier lectures and how successful he/she has been in retaining the grasped knowledge. On the basis of this evaluation method Remedial (encouraged – development) and quality improvement activity profile of both types have been produced for each and every student. At the end of the year every child ends up gaining valuable knowledge without doubt.

To create awareness amongst village and community members for the School Activities, small fair is conducted to connect with them. This fair is totally a student’s management work with the help and Guidance of teacher. All activities are performed by the student’s to showcase their capabilities.

Mathematics fair:

Every year maths fair is organised by the students of the school. Wherein students showcase practical, mathematical knowledge learned on the basis of
various activities. And forstudent’s implementation of values in their life such fairs are opened up in society. On the cause of which every person get
inspired by such fairs and take up the step towards the betterment of society.

Mathematics Fair Objective:

        • Parents can be called in school premises
        • Parents can also get aware of the skills and knowledge of their children
        • Students get motivated
        • Learn to implement things in practical life.
        • Opportunity and confidence of working in group/team can be gained
        • Parents get aware of the classrooms
        • Gifted students can practice and work yourself – to increase skills.
        • Learning opportunity for weaker students can be opened with the help of games
        • Some children leave school in the enforcement of this method is less likely.

From July 2013 H.M.P Foundation piraamanis starting up Step up method in standard 1 and 2. And is in full efforts to start Step-Up method in other respective schools as well.
